Lubbock Area Foundation Helps to Support Local Art Students With Scholarship and Visibility

Today the Lubbock Area Foundation announced that an exceptional Lubbock County high school art student has been chosen to receive the Lubbock Art Association scholarship. Founded in 1951, the Lubbock Art Association was a community based visual arts organization that played an active role in promoting the fine arts and art education in the South Plains region until its dissolution in 2003. In furthering the Association’s efforts to strengthen the importance of the fine arts in this region for artists and art lovers, the Lubbock Art Association Scholarship Fund awards are made to talented young artists so they may continue their art education at the post-secondary level.

“This student (who will receive a scholarship) was chosen by a committee of local artists based on their academics, shown art, and motivation to continue in the art field.” “Each of the students are talented artists who will definitely make their mark in the arts community,” said Sheryl Cates, President of the Lubbock Area Foundation.

Each student who applied for this award was invited to show up to three pieces of their art at the Tornado Gallery courtesy of Larry Simmons, gallery co-owner. Their art will be a part of the May First Friday Art Trail and will be displayed through the month of May.
