Featured Grant Story: High Point Village

Community Foundation of West Texas recently awarded a grant to High Point Village for the “Happiness in the Heat” summer programming. Funding will be used specifically for the many summer camps offered at High Point Village as well as an overnight camp, and outings within the community.

High Point Village has served the Lubbock area for 11 years and we are so thankful! This residential facility challenges men and women with functional disabilities to achieve their full potential through educational, vocational, social, and spiritual growth. The ultimate goal for High Point Village is to stand out as a living community for adults with special needs – living as safely and independently as possible among friends. High Point Village is a place where they can live, learn, work, and socialize in a supported environment.

High Point Village shared Kayla’s story with us:

Before attending High Point Village, Kayla was working full-time at a small daycare in Tahoka, TX. While she had a job and loved her family, she was left feeling alone, isolated, and heavy-hearted. Kayla’s mom began looking for a place where her daughter truly felt connected, felt safe and could continue learning. Like every parent, Kayla’s mom wanted the best for her. She wanted Kayla attending an enriching program but needed it to be affordable. When her family discovered High Point Village, they knew it was just the place for Kayla. After joining High Point Village programs, Kayla has developed friendships and a community that will last her a lifetime. Kayla has become a bold leader, a great friend, and a cheerful presence at High Point.

This summer, Kayla plans to attend “Happiness in the Heat” at High Point Village so she can continue to grow and learn while having a real summer camp experience! Were it not for High Point Village, Kayla (like many Villagers served) might end up sitting at home during the summer months with few options for activities. The “Happiness in the Heat” at High Point Village program will allow us to provide quality summer programs at an affordable cost to individuals with special needs and their families.

Kayla’s story is the heart of Community Foundation of West Texas. We love connecting deserving non-profits with the dollars they need to impact the Lubbock area and beyond.
