CFWT Mini-Grants for Teachers Story: Frenship ISD
A Frenship Elementary teacher used her mini-grant from the Community Foundation of West Texas to fund her “Makey Makey an Engineer out of You” project. The “Makey Makey” kits allowed students to create various controllers out of any object and use their imagination. The teacher wrote, “The students were able to repurpose recyclable materials along with the Makey Makey kits to invent innovative and unique controllers.”
The Frenship teacher reported one story of the kits used in the classroom:
“A 4th-grade student proved me wrong when he pitched the idea to me that he could create a controller with materials in such a way that based on my experience would not work. I tried to convince him to take another approach. Fortunately, he implemented the engineering design process and persevered and created a very unique controller incorporating the Makey Makey kit and it worked flawlessly.”
