CFWT Scholarship Spotlight: Genesis Walker
2022 Estacado High School graduate Genesis Walker is one of this year's Lubbock Optimist Club Phoenix Award Scholarship recipients. Genesis plans to major in business this fall at McPherson College. Genesis says he chose to major in business because "I want to become a realtor and through my hard work and research I found business to be one of the most beneficial majors in college for real estate."
Genesis was awarded the Ted Phea Boys & Girls Club Youth of the Year Award twice, Academic All-State in football, and First Team All-District in high school. The Estacado High alumni also has 48 hours of credit under his belt as he enters college. Genesis has volunteered with organizations that include the Ronald McDonald House and the South Plains Food Bank. He enjoys working out, practicing yoga, and playing video games.
The McPherson College student closes his report writing: "I have determination and grit to reach my goals." To apply for a scholarship through the Community Foundation of West Texas or donate to a scholarship fund, visit www.cfwtx.org/current-scholarships.
